Vice President, Development
Vertafore
ID Federation welcomes new Board member Wendy Haney with insurance technology provider Vertafore. We recently had a chat with Wendy (edited for clarity and space):
ID Federation: What do you work on day-to-day at Vertafore?
Wendy: I’m VP Development for our rating and connectivity products. We work on streamlining our products for ease of use and adding additional carriers of choice for our independent agent customers.
What was a pivotal moment in your career that significantly shaped your leadership style?
When I was asked to lead the personal lines comparative rater product at Vertafore. We were in the midst of rebuilding a countrywide personal lines comparative rater that stood out in the industry — taking it from a system that wasn’t working for our customers to setting industry standards with the best-of-breed comparative rater. Working with some dedicated agents, we completely changed the workflow to streamline ease of use, allowed for agency management system integrations, and added hundreds of carrier connections. The partnership among our team and the thoughtful strategic direction from key mentors I worked with were instrumental in shaping my career and leadership style.
If you were to write a book about your career journey, what would the title be?
“Riding the Waves.”
If you could mentor your younger self at the start of your career, what advice would you give?
Sleep more than three hours a night and always be determined.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spend time with family, watching my son live out his passion for playing baseball, any craft project and gardening.
If you could implement one change to improve the lives of independent agents, what would it be?
Less data entry and more integrated data elements into systems they use. I support ID Federation as this allows agencies to eliminate multiple entry of their ID, password and MFA [multi-factor authentication] credentials. A standard process, through their management system, allows for both secure and efficient authentication.
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Don’t Stop Believin’,” by Journey.
